i believe it's a nichikan. sorry if i wasn't clear before, the old one was issued prior to nittatsu becoming hich priest. for exact dates you could find out from some older japanese members.

Correct. They now issue a different Nichikan. I have a picture of the new one too. It is not so narrow as these two.
Note the one on the left. He wrote Nichiren's name 日蓮 real large and directly below the Daimoku. It is hard to see 在御判. Then, Nichikan's own name, 日寛 and kao {flower signature or personal seal} is in the lower corner, on our left facing.
The old SGI Nichikan has the Daimoku blanked out. You can not tell, but as you mentioned it is 'short.' Then, there is a gap between the Daimoku and 日蓮 {nichiren}. 在御判 {zai go han} is right below 日蓮 {nichiren}. Then, there is 日寛 {nichikan} & his own kao below and a little to our left.
